Vive la Clarins Bearded Vulture!
Learn more >A century after it disappeared from the French Alps, the Bearded Vulture is back.On July 7, 2011, Clarins’ enduring support and commitment to protecting our natural environment was honored when company chairman Christian Courtin-Clarins was asked to name a Bearded Vulture chick. He christened it “Clarins”.
At the start of the 20th century, these beautiful birds had completely disappeared from the Massif du Bargy region of France and were only reintroduced in 1987. Thanks to the long-term support of the Asters Association, today one of the largest birds of prey in Europe—endowed with a wingspan of nearly 10 feet—is able to fly free in this haven of natural beauty high above the Alps.
For more than 10 years, Clarins has worked with the Asters Association to promote the need for “safe areas” for future generations of species by protecting the balance of the ecological chain.
Clarins’ interest in the Alps is also due to its native flora. Owing to extreme Alpine conditions, the plants that grow there provide a rich source of active ingredients, as well as a fount of inspiration for future research.

find a cure for the most serious arthritisFounded by Jacques Courtin-Clarins, this association has made it possible to further the research efforts for polyarthritis and chronic inflammatory rheumatism. In 1989, Jacques Courtin-Clarins founded the Polyarthritis Research Association. Under the presidency of his son, Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins, it became the Courtin Arthritis Foundation in 2006. The Foundation has three goals:
1. Promote and support research on the causes of the most severe forms of arthritis.
2. Encourage the discovery and the evaluation of innovative therapies for these diseases.
3. Help disseminate information about these diseases, their prevention and how to improve the quality of life of those afflicted. This is done via communication campaigns and training sessions (in a partnership with the French National Medical Research Institute).
Today, 20 years after its creation, The Courtin Arthritis Foundation is a unique source of private financing for arthritis research. It is widely recognized as having paved the way for a quality level of French research. -
Etincelle & La Vie de plus belle
Maintaining femininity even with cancer
Learn more >Offering moments of beauty, gentleness and care to women fighting cancer—this is the goal of both of the associations Clarins helps support financially. The Etincelle (or ‘Spark’ in English) association opened three well-being centers—in Paris, Montpellier and Caen—so that women fighting breast cancer can regain confidence and still feel feminine. In each of these centers, women find a beneficial support system.
The association offers dietetic and dermatological counseling, the opportunity to have their hair done, and to receive beauty treatments for the parts of their bodies effected by cancer and the side effects of treatments and medications.
Clarins helped Etincelle by setting up a treatment room and has supported the association ever since. Clarins Beauty Therapists also lend their advice and expertise by performing treatments.
Clarins also works with Belle & Bien that organizes beauty workshops in 22 French hospitals under the direction of La Ligue Contre le Cancer (The League Against Cancer) to offer psychological support to women coping with cancer.
