Tonka bean Dipteryx odorata

Location: Venezuela
A tree common to Venuzuela and French Guiana where it is grown mainly for its seeds. Clusters of purple flowers hang from its branches and produce a fleshy fruit with a stone containing black, 3-4 cm oblong seeds known as Tonka beans. Orangey-yellow oil, rich in coumarin, is extracted from the beans and used mainly to scent tobaccos.Its unique fragrance is used in the perfum industry while its diuretic and draining virtues make it a frequently found ingredient in slimming products.
